A special type of folk song cultivated primarily in the Bac Ninh district of Ha Bac province. This tradition evolved from the "singing meetings" between young men and women from different villages. They would sing verses to each other to demonstrate their ability to compose verse and music. |

"Ho" are work songs sung by workers to reinforce themselves for difficult jobs. Vietnamese countrymen, even when they did hard labor, like hauling wood, pushing carts or rowing boats, were still able to contemplate and sing romantic ballads. |

Folk songs orginating from the South. In South Vietnam, most "Ho" or calls are water calls because the main mode of transportation in this region is by the rivers. The workman, who moves in calm waters does not need much energy, and as such, calls in the South are mostly slow, and can be classified as calls for greetings, or calls for fun. |
